Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ at Disney Springs
Normally people go to “chicken places” for chicken, because they’ve heard the chicken dishes there are pretty fantastic. Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ is known for its chicken based dishes: Fried Chicken Sandwich, Art’s Famous Fried Chicken, Fried Chicken & Doughnuts, and a few other things like Country Fried Steak. ALL of them are mouth-wateringly good.
On one of our visits to Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ at Disney Springs, we ordered the Country Fried Steak. It, along with the Mashed Potatoes, are something to write home about. The Mashed Potatoes they use as a base under the Country Fried Steak are a tremendous flavor combination and to die for alone. I could sit there all day and just eat the Mashed Potatoes. I would say, Chef’s Mashed ‘taters are the best I’ve ever had. They stick out in our memory.
Everyone rants and raves about how good the Art’s Famous Fried Chicken is, so we ordered it too. It comes with those same Mashed Potatoes and a Cheddar Drop Biscuit. The Fried Chicken lived up to all the raves, it is TOP NOTCH!!
We sat at the table next to the expedite “window” in the kitchen, where you can see all of the entrees and plates coming out of the kitchen. You can observe how everything is made in the kitchen. These guys have it down pat!!
It’s always nice to see really well done food coming out of the kitchen. It’s satisfying aesthetically and builds your expectations of what you’re about to eat. At Chef Art Smith’s, the hype is all REAL!
On a recent trip, I enjoyed The Art Burger. For me, this burger is the one no one knows about. It’s the one where you sit down and say, “I feel like having a Burger today…” yet your expectations aren’t high, because you’re at a famous Chef’s place known for its chicken. So going in I didn’t seem too excited, but I wanted the burger anyway. I figured I’d dress it up a bit by adding some extras.
Little did I know, this wasn’t going to be the same ole’, same ole’ burger. You know how you go to a place not known for their burgers, and you tell the other people in the party that you’re getting a burger, and they say, “yeah, yeah, burger .. who cares .. blah, blah ..” and they disregard it. Well, my expectation wasn’t that low going in, because we’ve eaten here before and seen the amazing dishes coming out of the kitchen, so I knew I was in for something special. Just HOW special, I had no idea.
I ordered The Art Burger, with Extra Bacon and Extra Cheese. When my server asked if I wanted extra cheese on the cheeseburger, noting it had an ample amount, I said, “Yes, I would like double cheese please.” The server was happy to oblige and smiled, because they knew what I was in for.
When you see the food and sandwiches coming out of the kitchen, you don’t grasp how big the meals are until one is set in front of you. Well, today was that day of reckoning for me. I received a massive, double thick patty burger, loaded with fresh toppings, and thick extra bacon, and more cheese than I anticipated!!
I ordered an extra side of the Tomato-Bacon Jam, which I could eat with a spoon right out of the ramekin. It’s got a sweet zing to it when it touches your tongue and makes you want more. Put it on everything!
They put a Salad on top under the top bun, which I love. I love the veggies on a huge burger like this, it creates balance and makes me feel like I’m still eating somewhat “healthy”, ha ha ha. All jokes aside, this burger is NO JOKE!! It’s hefty with all of the toppings; it’s a mile high and needs some good compression before you attempt to bite into it.
The patties are thick and juicy; the special sauce and Tomato-Bacon Jam are perfect; and the American cheese is the thing that brings it all together. It’s thick, and stacked high with flavor. After only a few bites into this thing, I was in heaven. The taste of it all, the flavors banging around my tastebuds were so tantalizing and satisfying. It’s making me hungry just thinking about it now.
Imagine a burger you make at home, only double the size of it. The patties are not only thick, but wide. It is not your ordinary burger chain burger size. It’s certainly not small. It’ll take your entire grip to hold this monster of flavor. The patty and burger itself is nearly as wide as your gaze upon it will be.
When I ordered the burger I asked for a side of mayo because I thought it might be a little dry, like most restaurants who offer burgers that aren’t their signature dish. I’m happy to report I didn’t need it! I felt like the mayo was not going to help at all. I tried adding it, but it just wasn’t going to do the burger justice at all. All of the stuff the burger comes with are perfectly suited, and the burger is made with this in mind. You can absolutely tell that this burger was crafted with the flavors in mind ahead of time. You know Chef Art Smith did his homework on creating the best burger he could, and HE HAS!!
The Brioche bun choice to cap this beast top and bottom is perfect; you want a decent bun to hold something so big and thick and keep everything in place. You want something that’s going to stand up to the juices, the special sauce, and the Tomato-Bacon Jam, and still hold it all together. Before I ate this burger I was never a fan of Brioche buns. Now I’m convinced it is the right choice for this burger; it can handle the heft and still fit in your hand and the flavor is on point. I had to compress this burger down a bit to fit it into my face.
I can’t say enough how impressed I am with this GREAT burger. I ate it all and could not even finish the French Fries I got with it. (Chips are offered, yet you have the option to switch to French Fries or another side for a small fee.)
Now, whenever my friends ask me where I want to eat in Disney Springs, I’m going to say, “Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’, I want that Burger!” I’m ready to go back any day now and I’ll be telling my friends this is the spot where they want to eat!!
Chef Art Smith has created a monster, and hardly anyone is talking about it. Go find out for yourself and wrap your mouth around the tastiest burger in Disney Springs. I’m certain you’ll be happy you did!!
